Abstract

PURPOSE:To omit the grooving operation for piston rings so as to mass-produce the piston rings described in the title at a low cost, by piling up many rings with the chamfers of their outer sliding, peripheral surface pointed in the same direction to form a cylindrical body, then by spraying in such a direction that no sprayed particles adheres to the chamfers. CONSTITUTION:Piston rings 1 chamfered 5 respectively at one end of their outer sliding surfaces are piled up to form a cylindrical body 11 with their chamfers 5 pointed in the same direction. Then only the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical body 11 is finished to a prescribed dimension, shot blasted, preheated, and is sprayed with ceramics etc. The spraying is conducted in a direction facing to the chambers 5 while revolving the cylinder 11 around the common axis, so that no sprayed particles adhere to the side end parts 6 of the piston rings 1. After the spraying, the surface of the sprayed layer 3 of the cylinder 11 is finished by grinding to manufacture required sprayed piston rings 1. The cylinder 11 having been treated by the spray process is separated into respective sprayed piston rings 1.
