Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible accurate displaying of the storage amount of fuel even if vibrations occur by making use of the intrinsic dielectric constant of the fuel.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel detecting sensor 1 composed of the outside pipe 2 containing an inside pipe 4 fitted with insulation members 7a, 7b at its top and bottom ends and closed with insulation sockets 5a, 5b with an oil flow path 6 and air vent path 9 at its top and bottom ends is prepared. The fuel detecting sensor 1 is then vertically disposed in a fuel tank 10 by way of nonwoven mat 11 and tube 12. Then, the oil in the fuel tank 10 flows into the clearance 3 between both the inside and outside pipes 2, 4 through the oil flow path 6 and this creates condenser action with the outside pipe 2 and inside pipe 4 as electrode plates. The storage amount thereof is then detected as an electrostatic capacity value in the detecting part connected to a cable 13. Since the clearance 3 is narrow, the accurate detection becomes feasible even if the vibrations accompanied with the running of an automobile occur.
