Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the thermal efficiency, the responsiveness of liquid-drip discharge and the stability of discharge by providing a heating element in the position fixed within a given range from the opening of an orifice in a thermal jet printer.
CONSTITUTION: A heating element 4 produces a thermal pulse by the electrification through electrodes 51 and 52 connected thereto, and the pulse, being impressed on ink IK, produces the change in the state of the ink, thereby the ink being made to fly as drips. In order to secure the effective area of the heating element, it is constituted so that it has a shorter side (a) (length: l1) vertical to the axial line of a operating chamber 2 and a longer side (b) with the length of 2×l1 or more in the direction of the axial line of the operating chamber. Moreover, the heating element is positioned apart from the opening with a fixed diameter (d) of an orifice in such a degree as the edge thereof nearer to the opening is found within the range of 1dW 50d. In view of the discharge velocity of ink drips, it is preferable to provide the heating element in the position within the range of 10dW30d of the opening.
