Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly raise the reliability of a firing device, by charging the capacitors of the gate circuits of two series-connected main thyristors at opposite phases to each other.
CONSTITUTION: Two main thyristors 11, 12 are connected in series with each other. The gate circuit of one thyristor 11 is connected to its anode. When the voltage across the anode and cathode of the thyristor 11 varies at a positive dv/dt rate, a power supply capacitor 431 is charged and its voltage is utilized for the gate. The gate circuit 42 of the other thyristor 12 is connected to its cathode. Another power supply capacitor 432 is charged by a current in the opposite direction to that in the case of the thyristor 11 and utilized as a gate power source. In this configuration, one-side terminals of transistors 421, 422 are coupled to the anodes of the capacitors 431, 432 and the other terminals are coupled to each other commonly to supply firing pulses to the thyristors 11, 12 in parallel with each other.
