CONSTITUTION:V-grooved holder 15 made of quartz or sapphire and pressing plate 17 pressed by spring 16 are arranged between finely moving stand 11 and roughly moving stand 12. Emergent end C of first optical fiber 13 and incident end D of second optical fiber 14 are placed opposite to each other in the V-groove of holder 15 and pressed from the upper part with plate 17. Fibers 13, 14 are then slid along the groove surface with stands 11, 12 to change distance l between ends C, D. Since fibers 13, 14 move along the common groove surface, no axial slippage occurs, and a transmission loss at a certain value of distance l is obtained with high reproducibility.
