Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a fixing work of the bearing cup to a yoke of the joint with a uniform calking force at low pressure, by performing the operation of plastic deformation for the stepped portion of spot facing hole in the method of press contacting a rotating roller to the stepped portion of spot facing hole. CONSTITUTION:In a yoke 1 are constructed a bearing cup holding hole 2, a spot facing hole 3 coaxially arranged with and having a diameter larger than the holding hole 2 and a stepped portion 4 of the spot facing hole arranged between said holes 2 and 3. Also in the yoke 1, a bearing cup 7 with a built-in spider shaft 6 is assembled through a needle roller bearing 5 in a position slightly inside from the spot facing level of the stepped portion 4. Then in such a condition that a support hook 3 is engaged to one end of the yoke 1, the top end face of the cup 7 is pressed by a press fit punch 8. Subsequently a roller 11 is pressed to the stepped portion 4 of spot facing hole and then allowed to process the plastic deformation partially of the stepped portion 4 by rotating a calking tool main unit 9, finally to fix the cup 7 to the yoke 1.
