Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a fluorescent material which emits blue to red colors by low- energy electron ray irradiation, by doping Ag and Al to a zinc cadmium sulfide having a specific structural formula.
CONSTITUTION: A zinc admium sulfide of formula (Zn1WxCdx)S (0.05≤x≤0.95) is prepared e.g. by heating powders of ZnS and CdS together with a flux such as NaCl, and removing the flux by washing with water. The mixed crystal thus prepared is doped with Ag (e.g. AgNO3) and Al [e.g. Al2(SO4)3], and calcined e.g. at 600W1000°C for 1W10hr to obtain the title fluorescent material containing pref. 10-5W10-3atom/mol of the dopants.
