Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable stable characteristic to be obtained by covering the tube composed of a hot melt adhesive agent on the optical fiber strand having been connected through fusion-bonding, placing a rigid fine bar longitudinally thereon and further putting on a heat-shrinkable tube thereon thereby integrating these. CONSTITUTION:First, the optical fiber strands 5 removed of covering layers 4 are connected through fusion bonding. The reinforcing member 6 having beforehand been inserted onto the fiber prior to connection is put on across the covering layers 4 of the both ends of the optical fiber strands 5 and finally the reinforcing member 6 is heated from its above by means of an electric heater or hot gun, then the reinforcing member 6 melts and shrinks, making close contact with the optical fiber 2 and integrating the same. Since a rigid fine bar is held inserted between the heat- shrinkable film 7 and hot melt tube 8, the fiber will not curve even at the shrinking of the heat-shrinkable tube 7 when heated.
