Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the rise of voltage due to the presence of bubbles by providing close to diaphragm an electrode having a structure in which a W-type continuous wave structure is formed from a plane view and sectional view in respectively specific angle ranges.
CONSTITUTION: In the electrolysis of an alkali chloride aqueous solution by the diaphragm method, the cathode 1 and the anode 2, having a structure in which the shaped of both the surface and back of electrodes are like A, in which the wave lines of the hill portions a1, a2...an and the bottom portions b1, b2...bn are in parallel with each other and a W-type continuous shape from the viewpoint of plane, like B, in which the angle α connecting a-b-c and c-a-b is 10W50° from the viewpoint of cross section (X-X') B, and like C, in which the angle β connecting a- b-c and e-b-f is 10W50° from the viewpoint of cross section (y-y') C, the angle γ connecting a-b-c and b-d-e is 20W60° from the viewpoint of plane, and the distance h between waves is 10W30mm, are provided in contact with the diaphragm 3 with the aid of the cathode supporter 13 and the anode supporter 12 through the packing 18 so as to form the cathode compartment 4 and the anode compartment 5. Thus, the ascending of the bubbles of gas generated can be effectively accelerated.
