Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of blow holes in deposited metal by removing the surface oxide of the filler wire automatically supplied by the cleaning action of arc at the gas shielded arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: If the plus side of a DC power source 2 is connected to a tungsten electrode 14 and the minus side to a wire straightening roller 9 at the time when the filler wire 8 drawn out from a reel 7 passes between wire straightening rollers 9 and feed rollers 10, then the arc 16 generated in the presence of shielding gas 17 such as Argon removes the aluminum oxide of the wire surface. The wire is fed to a contact tip 5 through a guide tube 11 and becomes globules 12 by the arc generated between the torch 4 connected to the plus side of a DC power source 1 and the base material 19 connected to the minus side. Since these globules do not generate hydrogen, no blow holes are produced in deposited metal 20.
