Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a storage battery which works over a long period of time, which is provided with ion-conductive heneycomb diaphragms having unit pipes of arbitrary cross-section, each unit pipe forming a cathode bath and anode bath which are connected to the reservoir. CONSTITUTION:Sodium is used as an anode active material, and sodium sulfide is used as a cathode active material. Heneycomb diaphragm 1 made of beta-alumina is used as a diaphragm. The unit pipes of the heneycomb having a triangular, rectangular, or polygonal cross-section are used as the cathode bath 3 or anode bath 4 depending on their arrangement. The distributing plate 11 is formed in close contact with the top of the electrode baths, and the distributing plate 12 closing all the anode baths is formed in close contact with the bottom. The top of the electrode baths communicates with respective reservoirs 13 and 14 through the passage for cathode and anode active materials partitioned by the separator 17.
