Abstract
PURPOSE:To let the heating of the edges of a skelp to be accomplished effectively by making the turning directions of plural turning burners opposite with respect to the adjoining burners in the continuous heating furnace which heats the skelp of material for forge-welding pipes. CONSTITUTION:While a skelp 4 is being conveyed by a feed roller 2, its edges are heated by plural burners 3 in a heating furnace 1. Air swirling vanes 31 are provided to the ends of the burners 3 and are fixed to fuel gas feed pipes 32 and burner outer barrels 33. The vanes 31 twist and bend spirally along the axial direction of the gas feed pipes 32 and provided in plurality along the outside of the pipes 32. These turning burners are mounted along the both edges of the skelp 4 in its lengthwise direction and the vanes 31 are so arranged that their turning directions become opposite with the adjoining burners with each other. Flames move instantaneously in the same direction in the contact positions of the flames of the adjoining burners, and this results in the considerably improved combustion efficiency of the flames and heating efficiency of the skelp.
