Abstract

PURPOSE: To apply a buoying force to a shaft and enable the reduction in the load upon a bearing through a simple construction even for a horizontal rotary machine, by mounting an annular permanent magnet concentrically with the bearing and placing an incompletely annular permanent magnet on a fixed portion in face of the annular magnet.
CONSTITUTION: An annular permanent magnet 3 is mounted on the outside extending part of a shaft 1 supported on a ball bearing 2. An incompletely annular permanent magnet 6 for attraction is mounted on a bracket 5 which is a fixed portion upwardly facing the former permanent magnet 3 across a gap 4. According to this constitution, magnetic flux acts as shown by a dotted line and the shaft 1 is pulled upward by the attractive force of both the permanent magnets 3, 6. Therefore, the shaft 1 can be buoyed up by appropriately setting the magnetic intensity of the permanent magnets 3, 6. This results in reducing the load upon the ball bearing 2 and lengthening its lifetime.
