Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the solubility of lanolin fatty acid to mineral oil so as to improve the rust preventive property, by heating fatty acids contained in lanolin in order to lactidize or lactonize the hydroxy fatty acid so as to remove the hydroxy group function, then by converting the acid into Ca-soap.
CONSTITUTION: Fatty acids contained in lanolin is lactidized or lactonized through dehydration of the hydroxy fatty acid contained in lanolin fatty acids by heating lanolin fatty acids in reduced press. to an acid value not larger than 10. The product mixed with, e.g., solubilizing agents, lanolin, wool grease etc. is heated and melted, then further mixed with Ca(OH)2 in an amount nearly equivalent to the fatty acids, and the mixt. is heated at a temp. 140W170°C to be neutralized while stirring in order to produce a rust-preventive agent. The rust-preventive agent dissolves completely into a mineral oil such as turbine oil to form a transparent soln., which shows no precipitates after standing still for a long time and cooling to a temp. near 0°C, causing hardly rancidity, and exhibiting excellent rust-preventing property.
