Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the local heavy scarfing accoding to the size and depth of the defect on hot slab surface layer by providing a high-pressure oxygen feed system between the scarfing nozzle and manihold.
CONSTITUTION: A feed system 13 of high-pressure oxygen is provided by way of a sub-plate 14 or the like between a scarfing nozzle 5 and manihold 2. An oxygne passage 18, cooling water passage 10 and fuel passage 20 are formed in the sub- plate 14. High-pressure oxygen is sent to the oxygen passage 18 from the feed system 13 according to the size or depth of the defect on the surface layer of a hot slab 6. If the amount of this high pressure oxygen is controlled according to the conditions of the detect, the partial heavy scarfing may be readily accomplished.
