Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance cooling performance and strength and enable good-quality product to be stably obtained by fitting the roll shaft pierced with the water flow path as specified in a cylindrical roll and communicating and forming the cooling water path provided with protrusions between the roll shaft and roll in said water flow path. CONSTITUTION:A horizontal roll 8 is constituted by piercing a hollow hole 12 into the axial central part of a cylindrical body 11, fitting a roll shaft 10 having plural diametral direction water flow paths 17a, 17b communicating with these and forming the cooling water path 21 in which the end of a pipe 13 of a diameter smaller than that of said hollow hole 12 is inserted by packing 14 on the close side of the hollow hole 12 and multiple protrusions 19 are integrally provided in the groove part 18 between the roll 8 and roll shaft 10 in said hollow hole 12 to the cylindrical hollow roll 9. The above-mentioned constitution enhances cooling performance by the wide cooling water path, enhances mechanical strength by the protrusions 19 and enables the plate or bar material of high grade to be stably obtained over a long time.
