Abstract

PURPOSE:To make high-density recording possible interposing a metallic thin film between a high-coercive force magnetic powder coating magnetic layer and a low- coercive force magnetic thin film to prevent the light beam, which is transmitted through the magnetic thin film, from reaching the magnetic powder coating layer. CONSTITUTION:Incident laser light beam 3 raises rapidly the temperature of magnetic thin film 6 and a minute section of metallic thin film 8, which is caused to adhere to thin film 6 closely, locally, and the temperature of a minute section of magnetic powder coating magnetic layer 2 which is caused to adhere to metallic thin film 8 closely rises due to heat conduction from the heated section above. Since magnetic layer 2 consists of a high-coercive force magnetic material which can be magnetized easily even in a comparatively weak magnetic field due to this temperature rise, high-density photomagnetic recording of information signals dependent upon modulation of applied magnetic field intensity or incident light intensity can be performed in a minute section of the same dimension as the converged spot diameter of laser light beam 3 in the manetic field dependent upon magnetic head 4.
