Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify handling, to improve reliability, and to prevent data from colliding on a circuit path by providing light switches and by erasing a returned light signal from the circuit path by the light switches. CONSTITUTION:Stations S1j (j=1-n) are connected together via glass fibers in a loop and computer C1j is added to each S1j. Light switch 3 is added to S1j and between the light intake and outlet of S1j, light branching device 1, light delay element 2, swtich 3, light delay element 4 and light inserting device 5 are sequentially connected in series. Switch 3 is that which uses a phase matching modulator making use of electro-optical characteristics of LiTaO3 crystal, etc., and since devices 1 and 5, and elements 2 and 4 are all made of glass fiber, S1j is composed of passive elements eventually, improving the reliability. Further, a signal which is sent out from S1j and returned via the entire circuit path after passing through other stations is detected by reception processing circuit 7 and erased from the circuit path by switch 3.
