Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate a trouble arising at the prime mover side deriving from an overload at the driven side, by interposing a clutch between rotary units at the drive and driven side, and engaging the clutch only when the rotary unit at the drive side reaches a speed of rotation exceeding the predetermined value.
CONSTITUTION: A rotating motion of the engine is transmitted to a rotary unit 8 at the drive side through an input power shaft 6. If its rotational speed comes to be above the predetermined value, wedge-shaped friction transmission elements 14a... of a friction transmission member 14 are displaced outward by the centrifugal force against a spring 16. In this way, a ring-shaped transmission element 14b is moved rightward by side faces of the transmission elements 14a... causing the rotary unit 8 at the drive side to be interlocked and coupled through a pump impeller 10 and turbine impeller 13. Accordingly the rotating motion of the input power shaft 6 can be correctly transmitted to an output shaft 7. On the contrary, if a rotational speed of the rotary unit 8 goes down to disengage the coupling through the transmission elements 14a the both rotary units 8, 11 are coupled through the transmitting fluid.
