Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the heating of an end portion of a steel pipe freely by a method wherein a point of time when the end portion of the steel pipe reaches an inlet of a heating apparatus is detected, the transfer speed of the steel pipe is adjusted by the detected value, and the steel pipe is extracted from the heating apparatus while controlling the temperature of the steel pipe in the operation when the steel pipe, etc. are heated by means of an induction heating furnace while transporting the steel pipe, etc. CONSTITUTION:Steel materials such as round steel, a steel pipe, shape steel, etc. are heated being transferred by means of an induction heating apparatus. In this case, a point of time when the nose portions and rear end portions of the steel materials reach an inlet of the heating apparatus is detected, and transfer is halted for 0.2 second and 0.4 second. According to this method, such defect as the both end portions of the steel materials become lower than the central portions is removed, and the steel materials are heated at the same temperatures as the central portions or at temperatures even higher than those in response to the halting time of the steel materials.
