Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to discriminate well an object material without lowering of the moving speed of the object material and without reduction of the number of discriminatable object materials, by varying the response signal level according to the marker code level.
CONSTITUTION: A marker signal is extracted and the maximum value of the marker signal is held by gain control part 50, and the gain of the marker signal extraction period and the response signal period of variable gain amplification parts 51 and 52 is controlled according to this maximum value. Consequently, since the response signal can be always made into pulses ideally in pulse-forming circuit 33, no discrimimation error is generated in signal processing circuit 34, so that good discrimination can be performed without reduction of the number of discriminatable object materials and without lowering of the moving speed of the object material.
