Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare, economically, a polydiene polyol useful as a raw material for polyurethane resins having improved water resistance, low temperature characteristics, electrical characteristics, etc., by reacting a diene polymer having two or more hydroxyl groups in a molecule in the presence of a cationic polymerization catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A polydiene polyol having polyvalent hydroxyl groups is prepared by reacting (A) a diene polymer having two or more hydroxyl groups in a molecule (e.g. polybutadiene glycol) in nitrogen atmosphere at -20W70°C, preferably at -10W30°C in the presence of (B) a cationic polymerization catalyst (e.g. boron fluoride compounds). The molecular weight of the component (A) is preferably 500W10,000.
