Abstract
PURPOSE:To form the nitride layer composed of only the diffused layer on the special purpose steel and increase its surface hardness with good performance by applying glow discharge treatment in the mixed gas flow of nitrogen and hydrogen of an extra low nitrogen ratio. CONSTITUTION:In the case of performing nitriding by causing glow discharge in the mixed gas flow of nitrogen and hydrogen with the special purpose steel as cathode, the mixing ratio of the foregoing mixed gas of nitrogen and hydrogen is defined to nitrogen:hydrgen=1:500 or less. Thereby, the hardened layer of only the diffused layer may be obtained without forming hard and brittle compound layer on the surface of the material to be treated.
