Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the durability of an alloy by combinedly adding Mo, Cr, Si, C, etc. to form a component with self-lubricity and a component with wear resistance.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of, by wt., Mo 15W30%, Cr 1W5%, Si 0.2W 2%, S and/or Se 1W5%, C 0.1W1.5% and the balance Fe. This alloy has a structure in which ε-Mo2Fe3 has been deposited at the grain boundary between Fe and Mo solid solns., and granular Cr2S3 has been dispersed. The hard ε-Mo2Fe3 contributes to enhancement of the wear resistance of the alloy, and the soft Cr2S3 to improvement of the self-lubricity. Accordingly, this alloy exhibits superior characteristics as the sliding member of a rocker arm of a diesel engine.
