Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture steel wire of excellent quality described in the title, having improved corrosion resistance, by quenching the plated steel wire at a specific, controlled cooling rate from just after it is drawn off the Al plating bath contg. a small quantity of Si until the plated coating solidifies. CONSTITUTION:In manufacture of plated steel wire by using a usual plating bath 2 comprising 2-10wt% Si, the balance being substantially Al, the hot dip coated layer of the wire 1 having been drawn off the bath 2 is quenched in a liq. 5, i.e., a cooling agent. To keep the cooling capacity of the liq. 5, the liq. 5 is supplied through a charging pipe 6 and is lifted revolvingly with a gas injected through a gas nozzle 4, then it is discharged through a pipe 8. In the liq. tank 3, the wire 1 is cooled with the liq. 5 sprayed through nozzles 10. Quenching of the wire at a rate not smaller than 40 deg.C/sec. refines the structure formed by plating and improves the corrosion resistance.
