Abstract
PURPOSE:To convey the continuous cast slab with the device of a minimum occupying area at high efficiency by letting the truck provided with a slab take-up fork run on the rails extending in the direction rectangular to the casting direction by striding of a roller table. CONSTITUTION:At the time of taking up the continuously cast slab S4 of a large sectional area produced with a continuous casting machine, a continuous slab transfer device 7 is positioned in the specified position and a fork 19 is lowered down to the lower limit, thence the truck is advanced to let the fork 19 go under the slab S4. The fork 19 is then moved upward to take up the slab S4 from a rollr table 4. When the fork 19 reaches the upper limit, the truck is run on rails 5 to move the slab S4 onto the feeder 9 of the soaking pit inlet and the slab S4 is placed on the device 9 on the way of the descending stroke of the fork 19. The slab S4 is transported to sizing mills 11 by way of a soaking pit 8, extractor 10 and roller table 12, where it is rolled to a suitable sectional size.
