Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain correct images stably by providing a means of storing a reference control signal.
CONSTITUTION: A comparing amplifier 33, switch 34, memory part 35 and control part 36 are provided between a high voltage generating part 31 and current detecting part 32. A member which is held in a reference state as the member to be charged 37 is disposed and corona charging is done. When the corona discharge current detected with the current detecting part 32 becomes the predetermined value, the signal of that time is stored in the memory part 35. Thence, the switch 34 is turned OFF to cut off the control signal by the detecting part 32 and the high voltage output voltage level or high voltage output voltage waveform is maintained constant by the control signal for causing the specified corona discharge having been stored in the memory part 35, by which corona discharging is done and the member to be charged 37 by an arbitrary potential is charged constant. As a result of this, the surface potential of the member to be charged 37 stabilizes without depending upon the fluctuations of environments such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc., thus the intended object is achieved.
