Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the formation of bubbles and power used in aerated cultivation, by a method wherein porous plates for fixing cells are provided rotatably within a culture tank having air layer and medium layer, whereby the air layer and the medium layer are alternatively contacted with the porous plates.
CONSTITUTION: Porous plates 1 for fixing cells are composed of nettings, fixed to a rotating shaft 3 through holders 2 and rotated by the action of a magnet 5 and an external rotating magnet 6. An aeration device 7 is provided at the bottom of a culture tank. At the upper part thereof, there are provided a glass window 8, a medium-inflow hole, a recovery hole, an in oculation hole, etc. Medium is charged nearly up to the shaft, sterilized, inoculated and kept at a constant temperature. The inoculated medium is aerated by slowly rotating the porous plates 1. Rapid agitation and aeration are not necessary. As cells adhere to the porous plates 1, the separation of the cells is easy. It is also possible to fix the fixed cells on the porous plates 1 and carry out the reaction.
