Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the constitution of a braking system for an automobile by using a supersonic or very-high-frequency oscillator mounted on an automobile to detect the distance to a car in front and conduct braking in correspondence to the speed when the vehiclse come near to each other within a fixed distance.
CONSTITUTION: At the front of an automobile is fitted a supersonic or very-high- frequency oscillator 1, to which switches 18W20 linking to a speedometer are connected. Inside the oscillator 1 are provided switches 15W17 which detect the distance between the vehicles in accordance with the time required for a supersonic wave from the oscillator 1 to hit against the rear of the vehicle in front and return, convert the time, receiving the supersonic wave that has returned, into an electric current and turn on according to the respective speed when the vehicles come near to each other within a fixed distance. When the switches in each system, e.g. the switches 15 and 18 have turned on together, only relay contacts 22 and 23 turn on, a variable-torque motor 2 starts, and a brake pedal 5 is actuated by winding of brake wire, thus the automobile is braked.
