Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce optical losses and yet enable the splitting of light over a wide range by continuously arraying the optical fibers of the same diameter to form an optical fiber array and radiating laser light to the side face of this optical fiber array.
CONSTITUTION: Optical fibers 4 of the same diameter are continuously arrayed to form an optical fiber array 5 and the laser light 7 generated from a laser light source 6 is radiated to the side face thereof. When the optical fiber 4 is alone, the laser light 7 radiated to its side face is spread radially in its radial direction. However, if the laser light is radiated to the optical fiber array, the laser lights spread by the adjoining optical fibers 4 cause Fresnel diffraction with each other and therefore only the laser lights 7 in the direction satisfying formula 1 are intensified of their intensity, by which the single laser light 7 is split over a wide range. In this way the light may be split over a wide range with less optical losses.
