Abstract

PURPOSE:To effect sufficient cooling for the piston by an arrangement wherein forcedly poured lubricating oil flows along the rear surface of head of the piston through an oil returning hole at the outer periphery of the piston skirt. CONSTITUTION:When an oil pump 16 is operated with rotation of a drive cam 21 upon the staring of an engine, lubricating oil is fed to a pump chamber 17 from an oil reservoir 26 and then forcedly supplied into a cylinder 3 from an oil inlet port 10 via an oil path 13 and an oil groove 12. This oil is forcedly poured into the gap between the inner wall of the cylinder 3 and a skirt portion 4a of a piston 4 at the position of the bottom dead center so as to form a thick oil film. While being dropped out into a crankcase 11, a large quantity of this oil is fed under pressure to an oil returning hole 14 from an oil inlet 15 opened at the outer periphery of the skirt portion 4a and afterward returned to the oil reservoir 26 from an oil inlet 15 opened at the rear surface of head of the piston via the rear surface of the piston 4 and others.
