Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve resistance to slide wear and strength of a magnetic head by using a crystallized glass to constitute the head gap. CONSTITUTION:Crystallized glass material 2' is stuck to joint faces 4A and 4B of magnetic cores 1A and 1B by sputtering. Next, in the first heat treatment process, magnetic cores 1A and 1B are joined to each other, and crystallized glass material 2' is melted at a melting temperature over 800 deg.C while applying pressure. Next, in the second heat treatment process, crystallized glass material 2' is subjected to heat treatment again at a crystallizing temperature of about 700 deg.C without pressure applying, thereby forming crystallized glass including minute crystal particles in the gap between magnetic cores 1A and 1B tips, namely, the head gap. As a result, resistance to slide wear and mechanical sterngth of the head gap is improved. Further, thickness of crystallized glass material 2' dependent upon sputtering can be controlled with a high precision, so that the head gap can be set with a high precision and can be thin.
