Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An N-substituted benzanilide derivative of formula I (R is 1W 4C alkyl group; X is alkyl, alkoxy, CN, etc.; however, R is 3W4C alkyl group when X is alkyl or alkoxy group).
USE: A fungicide having a great activity against Piricularia oryzae, without phytotoxicity to plants.
PROCESS: An amide compound of formula II is reacted with a halide of formula III in a solvent, e.g. benzene, in the presence of a sodium alcoholate or NaH, to give the title compound of formula I.
