Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate an error due to surface reflected light and raise the reliability of examination of chromaticity of lumber surface, by placing polarizers for a light projector and a light receiver and inclining the polarization of the polarizers rectangularly to each other centering the proceeding directions of light. CONSTITUTION:Sliced veneer 6, whose chromaticity is to be examined, is moved in the direction of an arrow by a conveyor 7. Laser light is irradiated from a laser beam projector 8 upon the veneer through a polarizing filter 9 and a rotary mirror 10 to scan the surface of the veneer 6. The light reflected from the veneer is transmitted to a light receiver 11 through another polarizing filter 12. At that time, the polarization planes of the polarizing filters 9, 12 are inclined rectangularly to each other centering the proceeding directions of the light. As a result, the light regularly reflected on the surface of the lumber does not pass through the polarizing filters because the light is hardly polarized. Only scattered light polarized by the surface of the lumber passes through polarizing filter on the side of the light receiver. This results in providing a lumber surface chromaticity examination unit which is not affected by luster.
