Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the measurement of alignment factors of a wheel, by displacing a laser light system relatively to the side of the wheel, detecting the change in the depth of the side of the wheel and determining the inclination angle of the wheel from the change in the depth.
CONSTITUTION: To determine the toe-in angle θ1 of a wheel H, a laser light stand 12 is set in face of a knuckle spindle S and fixed as to a direction Y and X-direction moving base 4 of the stand 12 is displaced back and forth by an X-direction driving screw 3 to scan the side of the wheel H with laser light from a light projector 16. The change in the depth of the side of the wheel H is detected in terms of that in the position of image formation on a screen 19 and stored in a computer to determine the contour L1 of the side of the wheel H. The toe-in angle θ1 is determined from the gradient of a straight line l1 extending between the projections of the contour L1, to an X-direction reference line lx. The camber angle, king pin angle and caster angle can be easily measured in the same way as mentioned above.
