Abstract
PURPOSE:To make possible the manufacture of arbitrarily shaped slab at high efficiency without causing decline of the yield in following rolling passes, by arranging the electromagnetic stirrers for the mold whose both ends of inner circumference are made the round corners, and following to this, by arranging the rolling mill for changing the breadth of the slab utilizing the casting heat. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of inner circumference of the slab mold 1 are made round conrners; and along both long sides 2 of the mold 1, the electromagnetic stirrers 3 are installed in order to give horizontal uniform whirling motion to the molten steel staying at the part where the mold 1 contacts with the electromagnetic stirrers 3. Following to this continuous casting machine, the rolling mill 6 for changing the breadth of slab is arranged, and the breadth of the cast billet 7 is changed by utilizing the casting heat.
