Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the decrease in image quality owing to the decrease in the amount of developing solution by detecting the amount of the developing solution and controlling the charging potential to a photoreceptor according to its detection level.
CONSTITUTION: When the amount of developing solution decreases to 1.5l as the developing solution is consumed from, e.g., 2l before the start of development, then a float 5 lowers and a switch 7 is turned ON by a pawl 9. This causes an electromagnetic solenoid 11 to operate to let a charger 13 approach to a photoreceptor 1 so that the charging potential of the photoreceptor 1 is increased. Further when the amount of the developing solution decreases down to 1l, a switch 6 operates to give an alarm for developing solution replenishment. When the developing solution is replenished, the float 5 resets to the state illustrated and therefore the switch 7 is turned OFF to release the solenoid 11, hence the charger 13 resets to the original position. In this way, the decrease in the image quality owing to the decrease in the developing solution, particularly the decrease in image density may be prevented.
