Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of mis-coils and improve coiling shapes by detecting the actual widths of plate with a finish width meter provided on the exit side of a finishing mill and controlling the gap based on the detection values thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The plate having passed through the final roughing mill 1 in a hot rolling line is measured of its width by a rough width meter 2 and the mean value thereof is operated 7 and is stored 9 as a rough width 8. At the time when the coiling of the front part is completed the gap of the side guides 5 of a coiler 6 is roughly set by this rough width 8. Next, when this plate is finished with a finishing mill group 3, the actual width of the plate is detected with a finish width meter 4. On the other hand, the speed 11 of the final finishing mill group 3 is measured, based on which the speed of the plate is opearated and integrated 13 to generate pulses and perform sampling of the measured values 14 of the finish width meter 4, whereby the gap of the side guides 5 is controlled.
