Abstract
PURPOSE: To raise the fatigue proof stress of at least crankpin part on which stress concentrates, by providing the part with an internal opening which is coaxial or almost coaxial with the part and whose main section is shaped like a cocoon or the like.
CONSTITUTION: Crank journals 1, arms 2 continuous thereto and crankpins 3 which couple the tips of the pairs of the arms to each other are provided as the main parts of a crankshaft. A core 4, which comprises a cylindrical part 4a, hemispherical parts 4b and other cylindrical parts 4c and whose main portion is shaped like a cocoon or the like and rounded on its ends, is made from a metal. A support pipe 6 is fitted in both the cylindrical parts 4c to provide a core assembly C. This core assembly is so set that its axis P2 coincides with that P of the crankshaft as to the journal part 1 or with that P3 of the crankpin 3 as to the crankpin. Casting is effected to integrally form a cocoon-shaped internal opening A.
