Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly improve a power factor even if an output capacity is large, by connecting smoothing choke coils wound around the same core, between rectifiers and output capacitors.
CONSTITUTION: During one half period of AC power 15, a rectifier 11 is closed, the AC component of the half wave rectified output of the rectifier is applied across the first choke coil 21 and only the DC component of the output is applied across a first capacitor 12. If the current of the choke coil 21 continues throughout the half period, a voltage of 0.9E is applied to the capacitor 12. During the next half period, the rectifier 11 is opened, another rectifier 14 is closed and a voltage of 0.9E is applied to another capacitor 13 in the same manner as mentioned above. As a result, a voltage of 2×0.9E appears across the series circuit of the capacitors 12, 13 and is applied across a load resistor 16. The power factor is thus theoretically improved to 0.9.
