Abstract

PURPOSE: To miniaturize apparatus by treating waste water containing high concentrations of thiocyanogen by bringing it into contact with bacteria having thiocyanogen-decomposing activity, belonging to Thiobacillus genus.
CONSTITUTION: A facultative autotrophy type strain(e.g., Thiobacillus No.126), or a heterotrophy type strain(e.g., Thiobacillus No.715) of the bacteria of the Thiobacillus genus is purely cultivated by the usual method. Then, one or more of the pure culture is added, for example, to an activated sludge in a fluidized suspension state in sewage treatment plant to prepare a bed. Then, a waste water containing thiocyanogen is supplied to the bed containing the foresaid bacteria and stirred in the air to decompose the thiocyanogen. The No.126 strain and the No.715 strain, as mentioned above, are, respectively, provided as Bikoken bacteria No.4346 and Bikoken bacteria No.4345.
