Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect bearings of an internal combustion engine equipped with exhaust turbocharger against seizure and damage, by providing in the lubricating system an oil pump which is set into operation at least when starter is in operation and supplies lubricating oil to bearings of exhaust turbocharger.
CONSTITUTION: When starter swtich 24 is closed for operating starter to start engine, driving circuit 23 is closed by switch 24 so that auxiliary oil pump 21 is immediately set into rotation. Therefore, lubricating oil in oil pan 1 is supplied promptly to oil filter 5 via oil strainer 3' and auxiliary oil passage 22. Subsequently, main oil pump 2 is set into rotation and lubricating oil in oil pan 1 is carried under pressure through oil passage 4. Here, since oil filter 5 and adjacent portions are already filled with lubricating oil, it is supplied, under pressure, promptly through main gallery 6 to engine portions E to be lubricated and exhaust turbocharger 16.
