PURPOSE:To exactly correct heat treatment strain of a work by a method wherein a work, which is strained in the shape by heat treatment, is pressed to a strain correcting tool, which is movable in the direction of axis, in order to support the work, and the strain correcting tool is moved under pressure. CONSTITUTION:When the work 1 of a gear provided with spline hole 3 is strained in the shape by heat treatment such as cementation, quenching, the work 1 is placed on the pressure-receiving block 29 of the pressure-receiving member 25 of a strain correcting apparatus 50 provided with upper, intermediate and lower supporting parts 11, 21, 31. A strain correcting tool 33 provided with a supporting part 31 is arranged above the work 1. A wedge 14 above the supporting part 11 is pushed by an oil pressure cylinder 15 to move the wedge 14, thereby a wedge 26 is pushed up.
