Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a steam turbine speed governor which can attain, even during a partial load running, an efficiency similar to that in a nozzle cut-out governing and facilitate to form governing stages in which the load applied to moving vanes is similar to that in a throttle governing by constituting same such that the angle of a straightened section of the entrance of a nozzle is designed to be same with the angle of a cone of a valve.
CONSTITUTION: During a full load running, a valve 15 takes a fully open position A to form a throat of a nozzle at an F-G section whereas during a partial load running the valve 15 takes a valve position B to form a throat with a doughnut-shaped clearance gap on an E-O line. Thus, the position of the throat is not almost changed during any partial load running. Pressure at the nozzle entrance is constant at any time during any partial load running, and is not at all lowered as in a throttle governing. Steam is jetted from slits 12 formed along the full periphery of a scroll casing whereby the load applied to moving vanes is decreased compared with the load in a nozzle cut-out governing.
