Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an underwater cable layer capable of self direction control through a change of towing point position by installing an elevatable excavating mechanism, a towing arm capable of changing the towing point to the forward or the rear of the layer and a towing fixture position of which is laterally adjustable.
CONSTITUTION: An elevtable water jet plow 3 to excavate a water bottom 2 and to guide a cable 5 into the trough made thereby, a towing arm 8 which positions the towing part to the bow x or the stern y of a cable layer 1 through the rotation of said arm 180° around a pivot point P in forward and rear direction by a hydraulic cylinder 9, and a hydraulic motor 11a to move a towing fixture 12 laterally are installed on the cable layer 1, whereby the layer 1 can move forward with the towing point positioned at the bow dragging the cable or move backward with the towing point positioned at the stern while the position of the towing fixture can be adjusted for self direction control of the cable layer.
