Abstract

PURPOSE:To change H-type chelate ion exchange resin directly into Mg-type one and also to enhance its heat resistance without an intermediate treatment for changing it into Na-type by treating H-type chelate ion exchange resin with functional groups with an ammoniacal Mg compound aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:A chelate ion exchange resin with H on its functional terminal group is treated with an ammoniacal aqueous solution of a Mg compound, e.g., MgCl2, Mg(OH)2, etc., having pH 9 to 12, at an upward space velocity(SV) of 50 1/H. The preferred amount of Mg compound in the solution should be more than 1 mole(as Mg) on the basis of the one mole equilibrium exchange capacity of the H-type chelate exchange resin, or 1 to 3 mole usually.
