Abstract

PURPOSE:To do various jobs within a wide-angle space around a base by a multiple-joint robot, by adding a simple unit to a turntable which is already possessed as a moving part by the robot. CONSTITUTION:The multiple-joint robot 1 comprises the base 2 for fixing the robot, the turntable 3 which is provided on the base 2 and can perform up to one rotation, a first arm 4 whose butt is pivoted to the turntable and which is set up thereon, a second arm 5 movably attached to the tip of the first arm 4, and a working member 14 pivoted to the tip of the second arm through a joint member 9. A prime mover 6 for rotating the turntable 3 is coupled thereto through a power transmission mechanism. An engage/disengage unit 15, which has a positioning unit 27 containing actuators 28, 29 and connects or disconnects the prime mover 6 and the turntable 3 to or from each other to selectively perform the direction shifting of the robot 1 or the job, is provided in the power transmission mechanism.
