Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a solid waste melting furnace from exploding and to improve the operability and sealing of the furnace by providing slidable gates at the upper and lower positions of the top of the furnace and an openable cut gate at the bottom of a hoppwer within a casing between the gates.
CONSTITUTION: When charging solid waste, the upper and lower slide gates 13, 17 and out gate 14 of a hopper 12 are closed to enclose inert gas into the hopper 12. Then the upper gate 13 is opened to charge the solid waste in the charging hopper 11 into the receiving hopper 12 to thus plate the waste on the gate 14. The upper gate 13 is further closed on again seal inert gas into the hopper 12 to substitute the entered atmospheric air therefor. Then the lower gate 17 is opened to charge the waste in the hopper 12 into a melting furnace 5.
