Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the fog and to develop an electrostatic latent image in high fidelity by impressing a repulsive magnetic field from the back of a carrier in a non-contact development, in which an electrostatic latent image carrying surface is suitably spaced from a magnetic toner layer carrier.
CONSTITUTION: There is arranged at a spacing from the lower side of an electrostatic image holding surface 1 renning in the direction of arrow a toner layer carrier 12, which is made of a non-magnetic material in the form of an endless belt, at the back of which is arranged a repulsive magnetic field generating means 13. The toner 10, which is conveyed in the direction of arrow as a toner layer 11, while being caught by the carrier 12 by the frictional electrification and which is made to have a preset thickness by a regulating plate 20, is made nappy at a developing unit 15 by the action of the repulsive magnetic field generating means (or stationary magnet) 13 and is uniformly extended by the electric field of the electrostatic latent image so that it is moved to the electrostatic latent image portion of the image holding surface 1 thereby to develop the same. A magnet having a magnetic field of a surface magnetic flux density of 200 to 1100 Gauses is preferred for the aforementioned repulsive magnetic field generating means.
