Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of the measurement of a neutron strong absorbent in a control rod by detecting radiation ray irradiated from the control rod, by means of reducing the effect of radiation ray except nuclear fission by setting up a shielding member between a neutron source and a radiation ray detector.
CONSTITUTION: A neutron shielding member 2 having a common penetrating hole 2 into which an irradiated fuel rod is inserted, is very closely arranged to γ ray shielding member 4, and a moderator 6 and a neutron source 7 are contained in a chamber 5 of the neutron shielding member 3. And a radiation ray measurement device 8 is arranged is the γ ray shielding members 4, and the radiation ray irradiated from a fuel rod 1 is measured, and counting rate thereof is compared with the counting rate of radioactive ray found from a known standard fuel rod of a known concentration of a neutron strong absorbent. By such means, the quantity of a neutron strong absorbent in the irradiated fuel rod can be measured with high accuracy.
